Getting Around Gallipoli | Bus, Bike, Car and Train Guide

Gallipoli is a city built on a human scale: the historic centre can be explored comfortably on foot in under an hour, and most beaches are reachable by bicycle or just a few minutes by car. Staying at B&B Le Camere sul Golfo, you are already in the best possible position to get around: the free parking in the immediate vicinity means you can leave the car and walk freely towards the historic centre, or set off easily towards the beaches and villages of Salento.

This guide brings together all the practical information you need to plan your journeys during your stay.

🚶 On foot

Gallipoli’s historic centre is entirely pedestrian and best explored on foot. From our B&B, close to the Canneto harbour, the bridge leading to the island is just a 2-minute walk away. From there, in 5–10 minutes you can reach the Angevin Castle, Sant’Agata Cathedral, the fish market and Spiaggia della Purità. The evening stroll along the city walls is one of Gallipoli’s unmissable rituals, and it starts right from the bridge.

🚲 By bicycle or scooter

The bicycle is the ideal way to reach the northern beaches — Lido San Giovanni is about 15 minutes from the B&B along the cycle path by the seafront. For the southern beaches such as Baia Verde and Rivabella, a scooter is more convenient.

🚗 By car

For those arriving by car or wishing to rent one locally to explore Salento, Gallipoli has several options.

Practical parking tip: Gallipoli’s historic centre has a restricted traffic zone (ZTL). Leave your car in the free car park near the B&B and walk to the island. For the beaches, the side streets near the lidos almost always have free parking within a few minutes’ walk of the sea — avoid the paid car parks on the main seafront promenade.

🚌 Urban bus

Gallipoli’s urban bus network connects the centre with the main beaches and neighbourhoods. It is particularly useful in high season to reach Baia Verde without parking issues.

Tip: regional buses can get crowded in high season. Check the latest timetables directly on the websites listed above, as the summer service runs at different frequencies from the winter schedule.

🚂 By train

Gallipoli railway station is about 1.5 km from the B&B and is served by the FSE line (Ferrovie del Sud Est), which connects Gallipoli to Lecce in approximately 1 hour 20 minutes with changes at Casarano or Zollino. This is the ideal option for those arriving from Brindisi or Bari airports who prefer not to hire a car.
